“If it’s what you say I love it” YES I DO!
That quotation from Don Junior’s email in advance of the infamous June 2016 Trump Tower meeting of multiple senior Trump campaign officials with a Russian operative offering dirt on Hillary Clinton are now also the sentiments of many people including myself about the latest and one of the biggest bombshells in the Russian collusion saga. Now long-time Trump lawyer & loyalist Michael Cohen, hoping to cut a deal to save his own hide, is reportedly offering to testify to Mueller that he was present when candidate Trump was told by Junior in advance about the planned meeting and approved it, with others also reportedly present in the room! Of course no one on our side would find this at all surprising, and it certainly makes sense from what we know about the situation, despite Trump’s consistent denials of knowing anything at all about the meeting during the campaign. We already know that there were initially blatant lies about the reason for the meeting as well as about who (POTUS) crafted the initial deceptive explanation of the meeting after it became public. We don’t yet know where this leak comes from, and it would be extraordinary and probably counterproductive for someone seeking a plea deal with the feds to publicize this. This has already prompted Trump’s attack dog Giuliani to publicly trash Cohen’s credibility, which is of course the height of irony and hypocrisy, given that Cohen’s principal client for years was the current liar-in-chief! Regardless, if this report about Cohen is accurate, it is hard to imagine that he would be lying about it, particularly if there were other witnesses, since he must know that doing so in testimony to the FBI would only make his own legal situation much worse! And if, as we already suspect, his assertion is true, this would not only expose (surprise, surprise!) more explicit Trump lies, but also show that Don Jr. lied under oath in Senate committee testimony about never informing his father about the meeting, and perhaps most significantly would provide fuel in the form of motive for the obstruction of justice case relative to the firing of Comey and possibly other actions. Sadly, none of this will probably make any difference to Trump’s congressional enablers and his cult following. We can probably expect further escalation of attacks on the Mueller investigation, and to this end congressional Republicans have already introduced legislation to impeach Rod Rosenstein! We may also see more diversionary tactics by POTUS to distract from this latest revelation as well as from other current events related to the Cohen investigation. Reality TV: White House continues, and things are definitely heating up!
