Unindicted Coconspirator!!

So what has previously been reported is now official, now that the Southern District of New York federal attorney’s office run by a Trump-appointed prosecutor has released court filings related to Michael Cohen’s sentencing to 3 years in prison, stating that they have concluded that candidate Trump coordinated with and directed Cohen to make the payments to Stormy Daniels and indirectly (through AMI) to Karen Mcdougal, in violation of election campaign finance laws. That clearly accuses Trump of being an unindicted co-conspirator in a felony. Significantly, it is clear that they have corroborating evidence and are not just going on the word of Cohen, a self-confessed liar. An important new part of this tangled web comes from a cooperation agreement with AMI and its CEO David Pecker, a longtime Trump friend, who has apparently also been given immunity. They are now admitting that through the National Inquirer they practiced “catch and kill” with stories detrimental to Trump and his campaign, including of his alleged affair with Karen Mcdougal, in coordination with Cohen AND one or more members of Trump’s campaign, for the specific purpose of helping his campaign, in known violation of campaign finance laws! Another previously released piece of evidence is the secretly recorded tape of Trump and Cohen planning buying back all of the embarrassing stories from AMI, which was never done. This also blatantly exposes more Trump lies to the public, the shock of which has long since completely worn off. Technically this should be an impeachable offense, but at this point the House Democrats realize that politically they cannot base impeachment just on this, and are wisely waiting for the Mueller report to see what else they can pin on Trump, hopefully something much more politically damaging, e. g. conspiracy/collusion with Russia and/or obstruction of justice. Although it is extremely unlikely that Trump will be indicted for anything while in office, as per long accepted DOJ guidelines (which is actually being challenged by some House Democrats), he could still be indicted after (hopefully) leaving office in 2020. It remains to be seen whether any of Trump’s kids or others in his campaign and/or business will be on the hook in the meantime for participating in these schemes. Meanwhile, the appalling but not surprising hypocrisy of congressional Republicans, particularly senators, has been on full display, with some like Orin Hatch, who excoriated Bill Clinton for his moral and other wrongdoings at the time of his impeachment, now says he really doesn’t care about these campaign finance violations because Trump is doing such a great job, and an asinine comment about how lots of people can be portrayed as committing crimes!! Wow!! It will be interesting to see if anything at all that comes out going forward will peel away any support from these clowns.
