What a Week!!

What a head-spinningly busy week! From the surprise FBI raids on Michael Cohen’s office, home and hotel room, to the leaked excerpts from James Comey‘s new tell-all book trashing Trump, to the missile strikes on multiple Syrian targets related to chemical weapons, to House speaker Paul Ryan’s announcement that he is calling it quits after this term.  And we now find out that Michael Cohen has actually been under criminal investigation for months. The speculation is rampant and tantalizing about what evidence the feds already had on him to justify these really unusually aggressive raids (apparently looking for evidence of financial crimes which may be related to multiple payoffs on behalf of Trump, based on the search warrant). This really sent Trump off the deep end and apparently has him closer than ever to firing Rod Rosenstein, who approved the raids, and possibly Mueller. The White House has reportedly already come up with talking points to justify the firing of Rosenstein. And congressional Republican leaders still refuse to support any legislation to protect Mueller. Now it looks like the evidence seized from Cohen could be tied up in court for an indefinite period, although some are still claiming that this investigation poses a greater and more imminent threat to Trump than the rest of the Mueller investigation. I find that hard to believe, but we just don't know enough facts yet. This is also reportedly making Trump less willing to agree to a voluntary interview with Mueller's team, but hopefully if he refuses that would trigger a subpoena (after which the firing of Mueller would be an even more blatant and obvious attempt at obstruction of justice!). The predictable scathing personal attacks on Comey in reaction to his book and upcoming TV interview have also already been spewing out of Trump, the White House and the usual surrogates. This is like the ultimate political soap opera, and the suspense is getting unbearable!
